Dr. Lear is an Associate Professor in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florda. His research is in the area of advanced gas turbine systems and combustion, as well as energy system optimization, including direct methanol fuel cells and spacecraft active thermal management. He is a recognized expert in semi-closed cycle gas turbines and flameless combustion. His work has been supported by NASA, the Department of Defense, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and several industrial parters, including Progress Energy, JEA, Triad Research Corp., and Elliott Energy Systems. He has published approximately 120 papers in the energy area, approximately half of which deal with gas turbine sytems. He is an Associate Fellow of AIAA and is highly active in AIAA and ASME.
